This week’s Tip: Use TimeTrack data to improve practice and sustain the work

SAM teams celebrate increased instructional time with teachers.  As the leader’s work becomes more intentional the focus naturally shifts to examining impact.

NSIP Board member Jennfer McCrystal has been a high performing and enthusiastic SAM principal for more than a decade.  She has experienced the value of the SAM process and is a strong proponent of supporting the professional development of principals and focusing on sustainability of the work…as well as the leader.  Jennifer recently shared:

“SAM teaches us to be incredibly intentional about asking, Where is my time going? I'd like to push that thinking one step further and ask, What is my time producing—and is the way I'm investing it sustainable?  The three themes that emerged from my doctoral research—Relationships, Relevance, and Renewal—are great lenses for looking at TimeTrack® data and thinking about what I’m calling our return on time. I like to weave in the idea of ‘keeping the fluff’—protecting the conversations, reflection, relationships, and professional learning that can sometimes look inefficient on a calendar but are often where some of our most important leadership work happens.  How do we make sure we're investing that time in ways that strengthen our schools while also sustaining the people doing the leading?”

This will be Jennifer’s topic as a breakout session speaker at the 20th Annual National SAM Conference.  Registered attendees will receive a link in November to make their breakout session selections.  You can register now for the conference by using this link:  https://bit.ly/4zVNzdD   Can’t attend?  We’ll have all keynote sessions and select breakout sessions available online in HD video after the conference.  You can use this link to submit a proposal to be a breakout sessions presenter:  https://bit.ly/3TyCVcu
