This week’s Tip: Use Your End of Year Rubric Assessment

I hope you enjoyed the end of year SAM process rubric assessments with your Time Change Coach.  We are preparing the annual report for the NSIP Board and will make it available mid-July to all SAM teams.  The results are very impressive.  The amount of instructional time for the year hit a record high.  Congratulations!

When you completed the assessment with your coach you focused on instructional time and its intended impact: improved teaching performance and student outcomes.  Your coach talked with you about how your instructional time aligned with your school and district improvement plans…as well personal goals for coming school year.  I bet you are thinking about your monthly instructional time goals for the 2026-27 school year.  I bet you have also considered the amount of time you are spending seeing instruction and giving feedback.  That’s the point of the end of year rubric assessment.  It is a time to celebrate your work and reflect on next steps.  Great!

I wonder if you’ve also looked at your management time data.  Did you know you can change your data dashboard with a single click from instructional to management time?

Use the options tab on your dashboard to make the switch.  It can be helpful to see what management work you are doing.  Could a First Responder assist?   Another thing to consider: your management work is of value, too.  For example, greeting students in the morning, lunchroom supervision and student dismissal are prime connection times with students that you don’t want to miss.  This interaction with students allows you to build relationships and emphasize your commitment to student academic, emotional and social success.

When you look at your management time, consider if you are using the correct descriptor.  The more specific you are in selecting management descriptors the more valuable the data becomes.

Time Change Coaching pauses during June and July.  Your Time Change Coach will begin working with you again the first week of August.  Have a need that can’t wait?  Simply email me at Mark@SamsConnect.com

It is budget time in most schools and districts.  Be sure to include your SAM services for the 2026-27 school year.  You can request an early invoice now by using this link: https://bit.ly/40GtA33

Consider budgeting for the 20th Annual National SAM Conference, too.  The conference provides an opportunity to learn from SAM teams across the US and an amazing array of national and international speakers, authors and thought leaders in leadership, education, and psychology.
