SamTastic Weekly Tip: 7/29/25 - 7 Days until your new TimeTrack arrives.

Writer's picture: Jim MercerJim Mercer

One Week until the release of the new TimeTrack, August 5.  All your data will transfer automatically.

Next Monday you’ll see a new TimeTrack with new functionality, faster response and ease of use.  Best of all, it will have all your current and past data, is easy to use, operates on much faster servers, provides state of the art security and provides a platform that can connect with other tech applications.

We don’t think you’ll need it, but we will provide continuous online tech support, 7:00 AM until 7:00 PM, Eastern, Monday and Tuesday next week.

TimeTrack Tech Support  Monday and Tuesday, August 5 & 6, 7:00 AM until 7:00 PM, Eastern

Tip for this week:  Be sure to identify three or more people as focus staff:  people you are committed to seeing improved practice during the 24-25 school year.  Then, schedule your first three events with at least one of the three.  Time Change Coaching starts this week, August 1.  Be sure to discuss your selection, and events scheduled, with your Time Change Coach.

To select FOCUS staff, go to the TimeTrack logo, upper left.  Select Individual/Group Set-up.  You’ll find the focus selection button to the left of each individual.  Yes.  This will transfer to the new TimeTrack a week from today, too.

The response from state and district leaders to the end of year annual rubric assessment has been remarkable.  Leaders are impressed by your success and want to know more about the SAM process.  Great!

We shared a sampling from four NSIP Board members last week.  Here’s two more.

Carol Lensing, NSIP Board Member, Emeritus:  I am very proud of my involvement in and the evolution of the SAM program over the years.  I became involved with the SAM Process in 2007 and brought it to the state of Iowa.  I have served in many capacities over the years including data collector, implementation specialist, coach, founding NSIP board member, and am currently an emeritus member on the NSIP board.  It is amazing to have been a part of seeing the growth of the SAMs over the years as we, as an organization, continued to review our process and the data we used.  It is amazing to have witnessed the changes.  As a board we meet regularly to look at data and study our progress and then make changes that continue to improve the process always framed within our mission and vision. Most recently at our board meeting we reviewed the impressive annual rubric assessment results from the last school year that highlights the great work that each of you do every single day to improve instructional practices and ultimately student learning.  A huge thank you to each and every one of you for the great work you are doing every day in our schools.  I am proud to be a part of the National SAM Innovative Project and to have witnessed the great work you are doing.  You are making a difference every day!

Dave Sechler, NSIP Board Member, Time Change Coach and Mentor:  NSIP is a non-profit corporation, and therefore is required to have a Board of Directors. As a former member of my local school board and past president of the Delaware School Boards Association, I can assure you that your NSIP Board is among the best there is. We fulfill our legal responsibilities, but we also do our best to model the excellence that we hope the SAM process helps you to achieve in your work. Through the work of Mark Shellinger and the NSIP staff we stay informed about the work SAM teams are doing, we reflect on our practice as a board, and we constantly look for ways to do our board work better. As part of that effort, in our July 8th board meeting we reviewed the results of the annual SAM Team Performance Survey.

On page 5 of the report there’s the statement, “The success of the SAM process is measured by the extent to which principals feel, and can demonstrate with data, that they are improving teacher practice and student performance.” Part of the survey asked whether you could “connect” your work to these two improvements.”  Roughly 90% of you said “Yes” to each AND you shared what you used as evidence to back up your statements. As an NSIP board member and a Time Change Coach, I think this is hugely impressive and I wonder how many non-SAM principals can say the same AND back it up. But there’s always room to improve. As school starts again, I think a lot of us coaches will be asking reflective questions to get you thinking about how you can be even more intentional, more effective, and more able to show exactly how your work is improving teacher practice and helping students to achieve more.

So as a board member and as a coach, I say congratulations to all! I’m proud to serve, and I can’t wait to see what comes next.
