The reviews of the new TimeTrack have been stellar.  I bet you’ve been exploring your new TimeTrack and are finding new features, an increase in speed and easier event entry.  I bet you are in the GREEN today, too!

There are four parts to today’s SamTastic Weekly Tip:  TimeTrack Access, TimeTrack Integration, Application for the NSIP SAM Principal Board Seat, and the pre-conference options, 18th Annual National SAM Conference.

1. You can access TimeTrack on your computer the same way as always:  use a bookmark, a shortcut or enter in the address bar:  www.TimeTracklogin.com

There is a new TimeTrack feature that allows you to pin the TimeTrack app to your taskbar tray.   This makes it even easier to access your TimeTrack…and it is easy to install.  Here’s a link to an 82 second how-to video:  https://bit.ly/3AoBB23

2. Another new feature:  TimeTrack now allows users to connect with other platforms and apps.

We’ve activated four integration options in the new TimeTrack.  These options allow a TimeTrack user to transfer TimeTrack events to a Google or Outlook calendar as well as to cell phones, Apple and Google. Once set up, this transfer occurs automatically, daily.  How-to videos are available:  Go to your TimeTrack logo, upper left, click.  Select Video Tools for SAM Teams.

Reverse integration options will be released slowly to allow for additional testing.  The first allows TimeTrack to capture accepted meeting invitations from a user’s Google Gmail and place them as events on their TimeTrack.  This feature has been in beta testing for several months with five selected TimeTrack users who activate the feature manually.  It is working flawlessly.  We will add an automated feature later this month.  This will allow users to set it up once and TimeTrack will continue capturing accepted meeting invitations indefinitely.  Expect to see invitations to use this feature in September along with a how-to video.  The same functionality for Outlook will come next.

3. NSIP Board President Bert Hendee is taking applications for the seat designated for a SAM principal.  Applications are due September 20.  Use this link to download the application.  https://bit.ly/3AeqJnd

4. Registration opens on Labor Day for the 18th Annual National SAM Conference.  There are several things you should consider before registering.  Here’s the first:  Do you want to come a day early and attend one of the four pre-conference all-day workshops?

Join William D. Parker for an enlightening pre-conference workshop inspired by his book, Pause. Breathe. Flourish.: Living Your Best Life as an Educator. You'll learn to set realistic goals, manage stress effectively, and maintain a balanced life, all essential for thriving in your role and inspiring those around you. Jenn David-Lang ~ Build Your Dream Team

Working together as a team is what helps people achieve extraordinary results. That’s why your leadership team is crucial to the success of your school. Come learn ways to bring your leadership team together, set clear priorities, function better as a team, collaboratively solve problems, build trust, improve communication, and manage conflict. What’s more, you will walk away with materials to conduct each of these activities easily with your own leadership team back home.

Jenn David-Lang has worked as a teacher, school administrator, consultant, and founder of educational organizations for more than thirty years. Over time, she noticed that school leaders had little time for their own professional growth, so in 2007, Jenn founded The Main Idea www.TheMainIdea.org. Her subscribers receive a thorough summary of an education book each month, connecting them with the latest and most compelling ideas on leadership, teaching, and learning. When Jenn is not up to her ears in books, she facilitates Masterminds (online groups of educational leaders learning together), gives workshops, coaches educational leaders, and conducts school evaluations.

Da’Mond Holt ~ Unbreakable:  Shifting from Tragedy to Trauma-Resistant

Trauma may beat us and bruise us, but it will not break us. We will discuss the pain and brokenness of trauma and challenge the narrative that people need more than just trauma-informed care, which only talks about the problem of trauma but shifts to trauma resilience, which promotes persevering from surviving to thriving.

Dr. Da’Mond Holt is a national trauma expert, a certified traumatologist through the Traumatology Institute.  He is also a certified mental health specialist and trauma crisis specialist through the American School Counselor’s Association. He is a board-certified functional medicine practitioner through the American Academy of Functional Health.  Dr. Holt has authored eleven books, including Trauma: The New Public Health Emergency in Education.

The response from state and district leaders to the end of year annual rubric assessment has been remarkable.  Leaders are impressed by your success and want to know more about the SAM process.  Great!

We shared a sampling from six NSIP Board members over the last two weeks.  Here’s one more from emeritus Board member, Debbie Daniels.

Being involved in the National SAM Innovation Project has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my 50-year career.  I had the privilege of becoming a member of the SAM family from the very beginning when SAMs was still an idea being developed and tested.  I immediately embraced the SAM process.  My first thoughts were, “Where was this process when I became a principal?”  I have championed SAMs and been amazed at the progress, innovation and technological advances of this project for almost twenty years.  Time is our greatest tool as an administrator and how we use it determines our success and that of the educators and students that we impact.  I have served as a Time Change Coach, Implementation Specialist, founding NSIP board member, former Secretary of the NSIP Board, current board member emeritus and Time Track user.  I continue to use the lessons I have learned from SAMs and will always be grateful to have been a part of SAMs and have had the opportunity to meet and share this process with so many wonderful SAM teams across the country.  As SAMs enters a new era and implementation of the latest version of Time Track, I encourage all of you to continue to support SAMs and make every day Better with SAMs!

The response from state and district leaders to the end of year annual rubric assessment has been remarkable.  Leaders are impressed by your success and want to know more about the SAM process.  Great!

We shared a sampling from four NSIP Board members last week.  Here’s two more.

Carol Lensing, NSIP Board Member, Emeritus:  I am very proud of my involvement in and the evolution of the SAM program over the years.  I became involved with the SAM Process in 2007 and brought it to the state of Iowa.  I have served in many capacities over the years including data collector, implementation specialist, coach, founding NSIP board member, and am currently an emeritus member on the NSIP board.  It is amazing to have been a part of seeing the growth of the SAMs over the years as we, as an organization, continued to review our process and the data we used.  It is amazing to have witnessed the changes.  As a board we meet regularly to look at data and study our progress and then make changes that continue to improve the process always framed within our mission and vision. Most recently at our board meeting we reviewed the impressive annual rubric assessment results from the last school year that highlights the great work that each of you do every single day to improve instructional practices and ultimately student learning.  A huge thank you to each and every one of you for the great work you are doing every day in our schools.  I am proud to be a part of the National SAM Innovative Project and to have witnessed the great work you are doing.  You are making a difference every day!

Dave Sechler, NSIP Board Member, Time Change Coach and Mentor:  NSIP is a non-profit corporation, and therefore is required to have a Board of Directors. As a former member of my local school board and past president of the Delaware School Boards Association, I can assure you that your NSIP Board is among the best there is. We fulfill our legal responsibilities, but we also do our best to model the excellence that we hope the SAM process helps you to achieve in your work. Through the work of Mark Shellinger and the NSIP staff we stay informed about the work SAM teams are doing, we reflect on our practice as a board, and we constantly look for ways to do our board work better. As part of that effort, in our July 8th board meeting we reviewed the results of the annual SAM Team Performance Survey.

On page 5 of the report there’s the statement, “The success of the SAM process is measured by the extent to which principals feel, and can demonstrate with data, that they are improving teacher practice and student performance.” Part of the survey asked whether you could “connect” your work to these two improvements.”  Roughly 90% of you said “Yes” to each AND you shared what you used as evidence to back up your statements. As an NSIP board member and a Time Change Coach, I think this is hugely impressive and I wonder how many non-SAM principals can say the same AND back it up. But there’s always room to improve. As school starts again, I think a lot of us coaches will be asking reflective questions to get you thinking about how you can be even more intentional, more effective, and more able to show exactly how your work is improving teacher practice and helping students to achieve more.

So as a board member and as a coach, I say congratulations to all! I’m proud to serve, and I can’t wait to see what comes next.
