Today’s Tip: Get the RED out.

TimeTrack turns an event RED if it conflicts with another. When you remove the conflict the event may stay red. What do you do?

Click the event once. Look for a red exclamation mark. Click it. This tells TimeTrack that the event is fine and will fix the issue.

For repeating events, double click and select ALL. Then, click update and TimeTrack will fix the problem.

Some SAM Teams elect to keep conflicting events as a way of remembering a meeting that occurred but the leader was unable to attend. That’s fine. It is also fine to use the public note section at the bottom of each day for this purpose.

Reminder: The 16th Annual National SAM Conference, February 2-5, 2023, is in Tucson, Arizona. The conference will be held at the fabulous JW Marriott Starr Pass. Each day will start with a Navajo sunrise ceremony and end with an over the top dinner/event celebration including an evening at Old Tucson, the movie studio where every Western you can think of got its start.

Remember, even if the conference is included in your service agreement you must register to attend…and there are a limited number of seats. 62% of the available seats have been taken as of this morning.

Today's tip: Increase the number of interactions you have with each teacher.

A teacher knows that more time needs be spent with students who aren’t

moving forward. A teacher plans frequent interactions with individual

students to help move them forward, often with multiple “touches” each day:

encouragement, lessons, individual and group work.

This is an important lesson for SAM teams as the same is true for the

school leader who wants to move a teacher forward: encouragement, the four

kinds of “seeing” instruction, the three kinds of feedback, individual and

group work.

Think about a single teacher, a teacher you want to improve. How many

“touches” did you have with this teacher since school started this year? How many touches do you need to ensure success for the teacher?

TimeTrack shows the amount of time you spend with a teacher. Did you know

it will also show you the number of touches or interactions? Open the

Dashboard, click on any teacher, and then click the interaction tab, upper

left of the chart. You will now see the number of “touches” broken out by

descriptor. In the upper right corner you will see the total number of

touches for the year.

Try this at one of your SAM Daily Meetings this week. Many SAM teams are

surprised when they look at their data this way—frequency of “touches”

rather than the amount of time.

Registration for the 16th Annual National SAM Conference is open. 31% of the available seats have already been taken. Be sure to register soon at:

Today’s Tip: Invest in Your Own Professional Development

The annual National SAM Conference is unlike any other professional development for school leaders.

Why?

1. The experience is different. We make you feel like you work for Apple rather than a school district. You are treated like the important person you are—someone who makes a difference for your school, and our society, every day. The conference is a celebration of your work.

2. The content is different. Here’s an example.

Meet Cassandra Worthy. Business CEOs know her as the expert in change enthusiasm. After working as a chemical engineer at a Fortune 500 company for near two decades, she reinvented herself by developing a dynamic new way to transform organizational culture.

Cassandra now shares her work with business executives in the US and internationally. She impressed NSIP Director Mark Shellinger when he saw he speak at a business event last year in Minneapolis. Mark knew her message would resonate with SAM teams. In February you will get to know, her at the SAM Conference. You will receive a copy of her book, too. In fact, you will receive five books.

Cassandra is one of five keynote speakers who will take the stage in Tucson. They will be joined by 20+ breakout session speakers and four more national speakers offering all-day pre-conference sessions.

Many attendees say the time they get to spend with SAM teams from across the US is one of the best learning experiences ever. This, added to a social environment with great food, drink and entertainment is the perfect move to recharge your own enthusiasm as you move in to the last part of the school year.
